What Happens to Your Parking Booking If Your Flight Is Delayed

If your flight is delayed, your airport parking space is held at no extra charge — normally up to 24 hours — provided you entered your flight number when booking. A missing or mistyped flight number is the single most common cause of an unexpected charge on return.

How flight tracking works

Car park operators and meet and greet firms subscribe to flight data feeds. When you supply a flight number at booking, your return is linked to that flight rather than to a fixed clock time. If the flight lands late, the system knows, and the barrier or the valet driver is expecting you at the revised time.

This is why the flight number field is not optional in practice even where it is optional on the form. Without it the operator has only your stated return time, and a car sitting in a bay past its booked exit is billed at the drive-up rate — which is the expensive rate, and the one the whole exercise was meant to avoid.

What is and is not covered

A delayed inbound flight is covered at every operator we list, normally up to 24 hours beyond your booked return. Cancellations that push you to a flight the following day are usually covered too, but the cover is measured in hours rather than by cause, so a two-day disruption may exceed it.

What is not covered is a change you make yourself. Extending a trip voluntarily, missing a flight, or returning through a different airport are all amendments rather than delays, and they are charged. The distinction the operator applies is whether the flight you named landed late, not whether you were inconvenienced.

Meet and greet has one additional wrinkle worth knowing. Because the operator must physically deliver your car to the terminal, a late landing means a driver rescheduled rather than simply a bay held. Reputable operators absorb this; it is also why supplying an accurate flight number matters more for valet than for park and ride.

What to do on the day

Check the flight number on your parking confirmation before you leave home, not at the airport. It is the one field people mistype and the one that costs money. If it is wrong, most operators will correct it by phone or through the booking portal without a fee.

If you are already delayed and unsure whether your booking is covered, call the operator rather than assuming. Almost every operator would rather adjust a booking in advance than argue about a drive-up charge at the barrier, and the call takes two minutes.
