Stansted is the cheapest London airport to park at, and by a clear margin — £33 against Gatwick's £40 and Heathrow's £47 for the same eight days on the cheapest product. Blue Badge holders pay the standard tariff at Stansted. Accessible bays are in the Short Stay car parks closest to the terminal entrance, and the covered walkway means the route from car to check-in is step-free and sheltered — better than most UK airports for anyone with limited mobility.

Stansted terminals and getting there

Stansted has one terminal, so parking decisions here turn entirely on transfer time rather than terminal matching. The Short Stay car parks are a covered walk from the terminal; Mid Stay is a short shuttle; Long Stay is a longer one. The airport's own naming is the thing to watch, because Mid Stay and Long Stay are frequently confused at booking and are meaningfully different distances.

Ryanair operates the overwhelming majority of departures, with Jet2, easyJet and TUI making up most of the remainder. The Ryanair concentration means Stansted's peaks are sharper than other London airports — early-morning banks of departures create a 3am to 5am rush that car park shuttles feel.

Stansted sits beside the M11 in Essex, reached from Junction 8. Set your satnav to CM24 1QW. Typical drive times are 50 minutes from central London, 40 from Cambridge, 30 from Chelmsford and around 90 minutes from Birmingham via the A14 and M11. The M11 is usually clear; the reliable delay is the airport's own approach road at the 4am departure peak, when the whole terminal arrives at once.
